5. Breathing Wall
Seonhee Lee, Songwon Kim, Hyunju Lee
This project investigates how a physical environment can change its shape in response to a person's movement. It focuses on the relationship between materials, forms, and interactive control systems. The aim is to demonstrate how simple elements in our surroundings can alter their physical configuration through interaction. The installation is composed of a 'skin' made of paper, 'bones' crafted from brass sheets, and 'muscles' formed by strings, all augmented by a 'brain' (Arduino).
Two Unit’s movement
I used servo motor to made a mechanism transferring a rotation movement to linear movement, and fixed it to a point on the origami, which origins from the classical Ron Resch’s triangle pattern. The outcome was like a breathing wall.
Process
One servo motor pulls a side consisting of 28 units
As the person approaches, the shape of the wall changes. The main intention is to design a façade that can detect people and reconfigure its shape according to their movement. The infrared sensor can detect the movement of an object and be converted into a design of various motions.
